The Re-Bar Mitzvah of MJF

AEW world champion MJF attempted to celebrate a Re-Bar Mitzvah at the top of Dynamite, but what started as a showcase for one of the pillars of the company devolved into a four-way promo segment involving all of them.

"Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara interrupted the proceedings and expressed their desire for a title opportunity.

Back-and-forth insults were hurled between them, including some personal ones between Guevara and MJF, before the predictable brawl broke out, ending with the champion crashing into a cake on the floor.

This was a hot start to the show and a fantastic way to introduce prospective new challengers to the title picture.

MJF, Perry, Guevara, and Allin have long been billed as the four homegrown talents around whom AEW would be built. In this era of the company, where it is of the utmost importance for Tony Khan to start looking ahead, now is the time to move on this match.

Double or Nothing will mark four years since the birth of AEW. There is no better way to highlight where the company has come from and where it is going than by booking the four-way clash for the title in the main event of that show.

Props to Guevara for showing up and delivering a heated promo that differentiated from the normal arrogance that has dominated his mic work. He reminded viewers of the young star who once overcame early hate to become one of the most popular names in the Inner Circle.

  • "I am the only pillar that can keep this place up," MJF said.

'Hangman' Page and Dark Order vs. Blackpool Combat Club

3 of 7

AEW Dynamite Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from March 15 (4)

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

The feud between Hangman Page and Jon Moxley continued to encompass the Blackpool Combat Club and Dark Order Wednesday night, as Page teamed with Evil Uno and the returning Stu Grayson to battle Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.

The heels dominated the action by isolating Grayson and working him over in front of his countrymen. A hot tag to Page sparked a babyface comeback and had the team rolling late.

Persistent cheating by Yuta, including a shot to the face with the ring bell, set Moxley up to apply the bulldog choke to an already battered Grayson for the submission win.

This was a strong match, which should not have been much of a surprise based on the figures involved. What made it better was the crowd's devotion to Grayson and the idea of the underdog scoring a comeback victory.

It did not happen, which actually further established Blackpool Combat Club as a legitimate heel act despite one of the most popular stars in AEW history leading them.

John Silver and Alex Reynolds making the save, and Uno showing out as much as he did, suggests we may be poised for a big blowoff match at some point soon. At Blood and Guts, perhaps?

  • Dark Order delivered a cannonball/450 splash combo to Moxley for a great near-fall, then followed with Fatality for another narrowly broken up by Yuta.
  • Moxley retained the bulldog choke after the break, further establishing Blackpool Combat Club as the heels in this feud.
  • Silver and Reynolds made the save, clearing the heels out of the ring and standing tall.

TBS Championship Match: Jade Cargill vs. Nicole Matthews

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Jade Cargill issued an open challenge a week ago to anyone in Canada who wanted to step up and compete for the TBS Championship.

Longtime Shimmer competitor Nicole Matthews answered the call but lasted no longer than any other opponent Cargill has battled. A big pump kick and Jaded ended her night in short order as the champ retained.

Cargill grabbed a mic and questioned whether that was all Canada had, only for Taya Valkyrie to step through the curtain for her AEW debut. She came face-to-face with the champion before laying out Leila Grey with Cargill's finisher.

Considering how much of a holding pattern Cargill has been in over the last year, bringing Valkyrie in feels like a step in the right direction for reestablishing the TBS champion as a force in AEW.

Cargill is a star who should be doing so much more than she has been, and if that means a feud with Valkyrie and even potentially losing the title to her, so be it. Anything to get her past these flavorless squash matches that help no one at this point.

  • Valkyrie's arrival generated a nice reaction, and the confrontation with Cargill worked. Whether there is enough from a storytelling perspective to get the match over more than other recent TBS title contests is the question.

AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy vs. Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett did everything in his power to dethrone Orange Cassidy as AEW international champion Wednesday night. There was interference from Satnam Singh, Sonjay Dutt and a late blow to the head of the champion from Jay Lethal, but nothing could keep Freshly Squeezed down.

Not even a left knee injury was able to stop him. Late on, he shook off the pain long enough to land one well-timed Orange Punch to secure the victory.

Cassidy once again showcased why he has been steadily growing among the best workers in AEW over the last eight months. He has great matches with talent of all sizes, shapes and backgrounds, and this was no different.

This was a very good sports-entertainment-heavy match, with the interference timed perfectly and Aubrey Edwards starring as the referee determined to prevent Jarrett from stealing championship gold.

To his credit, the 55-year-old proved he can still hang in one-on-one action. Much of that can be attributed to the fact that he is one of the smartest, most experienced in-ring performers of his or any generation.

Double J knows what he has to do to make the guy he is in the ring with, and this was evidence of it.

  • A referee bump led to Dutt sliding Jarrett's trusty guitar to him, only for Edwards to stop him from using it.
  • Cassidy feigned being injured by Singh, and Edwards booted the heels from ringside.
  • Lethal blasted Cassidy with the Golden Globe, leading to a great near-fall.
  • Trent Beretta wiped Lethal out, ensuring things would be one-on-one down the stretch.

The Outcasts Get Dose of Their Own Medicine

Ruby Soho, Saraya and Toni Storm hit the ring Wednesday night to address their recent actions toward the AEW originals.

After more of the same rhetoric from the trio, Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker entered the fray. They were overwhelmed by the numbers until Riho (with a large pipe), Willow Nightingale and Skye Blue arrived.

They chased off the heels and stood tall to close out the segment.

This did nothing to further the program or add to it in any way, but it was nice to see the heels get a bit of their comeuppance. However, this felt very much like a placeholder for this storyline than anything that progressed it.

AEW World Trios Championship: The Elite vs. House of Black vs. JAS

It was not a happy homecoming for Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega on Wednesday night, despite thunderous welcomes from the Winnipeg fans.

Jericho partnered with Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia while Omega teamed with Nick and Matt Jackson to challenge House of Black's Malakai Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews.

Despite overwhelmingly positive reactions for the city's favorite sons, it was the united force of House of Black that fueled them to a successful title defense.

After an action-packed main event broke down late, King, Matthews and Black united to finish off Garcia with Dante's Inferno for the win.

Following the bell, the brawl between Hangman Page and the Blackpool Combat Club spilled into the arena, culminating with Page standing between his foes and his former friends, The Elite.

And that is how you execute a cliffhanger.

Page has not been a member of The Elite for two years now, their friendship dissolving during Hangman's spiral. But there have been teases of a reunion across the Being The Elite YouTube show, and Page even alluded to it on TV a month or so ago.

It looks like a reunion with The Elite is coming sooner rather than later. And going up against a nastier-than-ever Blackpool Combat Club is the right place to start.

Jericho and Omega showed up and showed out, motivated by the love displayed to them by the fans in Winnipeg, while House of Black again looked like a badass force that will be difficult to unseat.

This was a very good way to wrap up the show.

  • The reaction for The Elite and Jericho Appreciation Society, then the teased showdown between Omega and Jericho, was deafening. Of course, the champs broke up said showdown to earn a ton of heat.

  • Omega sized up Matthews for a V-Trigger, but Jericho took him down mid-run with a Walls of Jericho.
  • Jericho and Omega worked together to deliver a superplex to King.
  • Omega broke up the pinfall attempt after Dante's Inferno, saving Jericho.
